Finally the tourists return to Israel again. When the second “Intifada” broke out in 2000, the number of visitors dropped dramatically. But as the fight against terror has proven ever more successful, the numbers are looking better and better.

In 2003, the mental barrier of 1 million tourists was passed - up 23% from the previous year! In the first 2 months of 2004, the number of visitors rose with no less than 44% (to 183,100 tourists) compared to the same period in 2003. [Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, spring 2004].

According to the former Minister of Tourism, Benny Elon, Israel has got a potential of receiving at least 4 million tourists, every year. The long-term ambition is to double this number.

The positive trend is good for the Israeli economy. Every 100,000 tourists spend US$ 200 million in the country and create 4500 jobs.
